Narendra Nagar is a city in the district of Tehri Garhwal in Uttarakhand. It is administered by a Municipal Board. Earlier, it served as the headquarters of Tehri Garhwal district. However, New Tehri Town is the headquarters now.
A brief history of Narendra Nagar
Narendra Nagar was established by Maharaja Narendra Shah of Tehri Garhwal in the year 1919 and was made capital of the state. Odathalli, the small town that is nestled under the foothills of Shivalik was not only selected for its scenic beauty but also for its proximity with the plains. Odathalli also enjoys historical as well as mythological significance right from ancient times. The palace of Narendra Nagar has been visited by several dignitaries including British Viceroys, Prime Ministers of India, Spiritual Leaders, etc. The last Maharaja of Narendra Nagar was Manabendra Shah in 1946. Post independence, the province came under Uttar Pradesh state. Now it comes under Uttarakhand.
Today, Narendra Nagar Palace has been made into a spa named “Ananda- In The Himalayas”. The palace overlooks the Doon Valley and offers picturesque view of the Himalayas. The palace is flanked by two World War I cannons at the royal gateway. Today, the palace stands as a symbol of grandeur as well as splendor of the bygone era.

Narendra Nagar is situated at 30.17oN 78.30o E and has an elevation of 1326 m (4,350 feet). Narendra Nagar offers wonderful view of Haridwar, Rishikesh, the Ganges River and the Doon Valley. It is situated on the Rishikesh-Gangotri-Yamunotri Route.
